Its 6 am in the morning and i am finding myself penning down this blog!!!! Its seems the all the brilliant philosophies of life must occur to us in the morning since that's when we start worrying abt the day ahead of us...Before i start being my garrulous self abt my life let me complete the preliminaries of introducing myself in my first blog. My name is inconsequential here but i would like to be known as Aaron ( caught a fancy for this name while choosing one for my nephew :) ).. a female of age 21 from India and an Engineer of Computer Science by qualification ( soon to be "by profession" ). I am currently in the unstable state where in i have finished my degree and will be joining a software company in Sept or may be november depending on which one i choose...... My hobbies include reading books and playing games online....I am usually very garrulous and have two best friends (who can be called upon to testify for my sane mental state if u ever begin to doubt abt it !)...Now let's move on to weightier matters.
This blog will solely be abt Engineers as observed by me in these 4 yrs.Ask any engineer what it is that defines the profession and what is their driving motivation factor. These two questions are enough to reveal their entire engg study and their future attitudes in their career. I have encountered altogether 3 type of engineers. I will call them " Eternal Student (ES)","Idealistic Fools (IF)" and the " Practical Geek (PG)". Why do i call them so?
Defining them here " An ES as stated remains the student forever during the entire 4 yrs and if not enlightened for their lives. These are the people whose sole aim in their course is the marks and the completion of journals and lab term works (by ANY POSSIBLE means). They never realize the whole objective of this course and why the hell are they in here and how can they affect the future development of technology as a whole. There every goal is based on the basic needs of "ROTI KAPDA AUR MAKAN" and obviously the bigger the makan the better!!!. You can easily recognize these people since they have an almost evil gleam in their eyes when the results are out or after the exams when u stand discussing the paper u will find them quoting from the text books. In Labs u will find them with their elder relatives or friends programs in their books and are most in demand people when journal completion date approaches. In their careers i am sure u will find these people doing their jobs by the requisite method and are always on schedule (By far the most irritating aspect of their personality). You will find their memories in competition with our hard disks and SDRAMS.These are the people who can be expected to run their lives by a clock work precision since no risks are ever involved .They always are on the side of the ESTABLISHMENT!!!
Moving on to the IF's these are the people whom ES's goto when they need a little polish on their Viva or when they want a final year project. However u won't find the IF's anywhere on the dais for academic excellence i assure u.Why u may wonder- since their interests in their fields don't usually fall in line with that of the university curriculum. So they spend their time actually working out all the lab term works themselves thereby having no time to study for the recurring internals or journals.these people usually are the most dissatisfied lot in the college dragged in opposite directions one of their interests and another of their academic requirements and family pressure to maintain them. So if they are strong they end up graduating in 4 yrs with the degree but disillusioned with their career and profession. If they end up following their interests they end up doing their course for more than 4 yrs but dissatisfied and confused whether they made the right choice. In worst case in their futures they end up working for those ES whom they once explained the importance of those ideas they were taught. In Best case they are the future of technology if they are recognized or pave their own way.
Moving on to the PG.These are a few of the rarest people i have met who combine the best of both ES and IF. Ideally these are the outputs we should have from our colleges in maximum numbers .These people do all their college work on time and yet never lose sight of the goals of engg and are having a motivation factor besides those of ES and are at heart an IF,however practical enough to prioritize their goals maintaining a fine balance in life. You will find them the success in the field of their choice and they usually are the best managers for the IF's in their career since they can appreciate the talents of IF but still separate the practical from the impractical.
This was a brief overview of my observations and i invite u r thoughts on the same. Next blog may be on the engg college environment which gives rise to these categories of engineers.
