ALL ABOUT A DOG
(With apologies to A.G.Gardner)
A dog is probably the most faithful creature in the world. so faithful that it does not hesitate to go to any extent to save its master. Here i am talking about domestic dogs. i,on the contrary, find stray dogs rather nice.
Every morning when i go with my friend on her scooty for tuition , apart form the morning cold ,i have to think about a huge dog running loose at a particular cross. its always welcomes us with a huge bark that echoes through the coola nd the serene morning atmosphere.simultaneously my friend speeds up the vehicle as i wave it goodbye ,mind you its a domestic animal. You may be surprised to know that even after a year i have not been beyond the gates of my neighbour. How could i? when there stands the watch dog with its watchful eyes on me.
When i was in Udupi , i had been to a friends house.Since her dog was dead i had no problem entering the house. When out of Nowhere a cute little dog(Cute to look from afar) ran towards me.I was in no mood to 'paw shake' with the visitor. So i immediately took to my heels and occupied a safe place on the terrace and refused to come down for an introduction with the visitor.
Once on a visit to my Grandma's place,i went with my cousins to meet a neighbour. A huge dog charged out of the door at me.I did not know what to do.I played 'Hide and Seek' with the dog but it did not seem to like this game much,it rather seemed to like the statue game where in you have to stand still. Now the poor thing is dead and may its soul rest in peace
It was in Udupi ,we had a white dog in our compound.Since it was a white dog all my friends decided to call it snowy.I,who was under the influence of Enid Blyton's 'Famous Five' novels wanted to call it Timothy (named after the dog in the novel). The poor creature was very confused when all of us stood in our respective galleries and called it by different names.
It had a strange habit of sniffing the bags carried by us.When i was in 5th std i returned from school to find the dog near the quarters entrance and as usual i kept my lunch bag on the ground for it to sniff. But it seems he was in a more friendly mood. He came towards me.The expected reaction from me was "Amma....aaaaaa" i shrieked and ran a huge round in the compound and came back to the quarters and did not stop till i reached my home on the second floor. When my neighbour tried to stop me on the first floor i shouted 'No aunty ,he'll come up here also ' and ran up.I was so fast that if P.T.Usha was there ,she would readily surrender her golden shoes to me.
My cousin was a late riser.I said that she start getting up early only when the tail of a dog became straight. One day she excitedly called me and said 'Look there is a dog with a straight tail ' I turned back to see.Indeed there was a dog with a straight tail.Only it was a little short, about 2 inches after an verterinarian worked on it.
Normally dogs drive away thieves by barking at them.Do you know that it can also help thieves by keeping silent? People who frequent the house can be friendly to the dogs.Police work on this theory and get at the thieves. It may interest you to know that a king lost his throne because of a dog.The King was so infatuated with the dog that he almost emptied his treasury to celebrate in all grandeur the marriage of his pet dog.It did not amuse the British who were his overlords and promptly showed him the door.So a Dog can make or mar a King.
Near my house lies a block for bachelors.Their landlord is an ardent lover of dogs. His ferocious dog is the apple of his eye and always chained near the door. The people getting into the house barely miss the canine of the dog.Yet the landlord insists that it is a friendly one.The inhabitants are wise. They have already purchased anti-rabies drugs as a precaution. They have also collected a few books about dogs for thier better.
Let me tell you about a recent happening. The master of the house forgot to chain the dog.The front door was a little open.Perhaps having watched the master enjoying a nap over the sofa for long, the dog wanted to experience the same. it entered the house and suddenly jumped on the sofa.A family member enticed, cajoled and finally threatened .But the dog ignored all this imperiously. Finally it required all the skill and ingenuity of all senior neighbours to bring it out.
Even persons in high office had thier own pet.Whenever Presidents Kennedy,Nixon and recently Clinton went for holidaying they were pictured with thier dogs,Hitler may have been notorious .But even he had his weakness for dogs.In fact he saw to it that his dog led him to heaven or hell before he ended his life
I think i am safe because dogs cannot read this. They won't chase for writing it and P.T.Usha can rest assured that her record is safe :-)
